They're Everywhere! Figure Teases Its Newest Robot...

Figure 02 is straight out of a sci-fi movie...

At a Glance

Figure is back with a splash. The OpenAI-backed startup has unveiled its latest humanoid robot, Figure 02. Touted as the world’s most advanced humanoid robot by founder Brett Adcock, Figure 02 aims to revolutionize human-robot interaction and integration in various sectors.

Deeper Learning

Technological Marvel: Figure 02 boasts state-of-the-art technology, including advanced AI and robotics, designed to mimic human movements and interactions seamlessly.

Development and Features: Figure 02 looks like it's getting a complete overhaul with brand new components, including joints, limbs, and a flexible mesh body. The company highlights torque ratings up to 150Nm and a range of motion up to 195 degrees. A redesigned foot demonstrates innovative ground interaction, with a human-like shape and enhanced traction. Figure 02 also possesses new actuators, such as the A2 with 50Nm torque and 48° range, and L1 and L4 with 150Nm torque and 195° and 135° ranges, respectively.

Real-World Applications: Figure 02 is expected to have a vast range of applications across different industries. More advanced robots mean wider adoption across the United States as well as better potential efficiency increased in manufacturing, retail, and healthcare. Remember, Figure inked a deal with BMW back in January to pilot Figure 01 in its Spartanburg factories, and if you're curious about how that is going, check out the update here!

Video Teaser: Brett Adcock talked about Figure 02 in an X post, but also dropped the teaser on YouTube. Continued advancements and iterations of this technology are expected to further refine and expand its capabilities, for example, you may notice the robot's redesigned hand, which now closely resembles a human hand with rubberized grips and opposable thumbs.

So What?

We'll see how Figure 02 performs compared to its predecessor once it is deployed, but so far, the teaser seems promising. Of course Figure is well backed, but with increased competition from Boston Dynamics, Tesla, and NVIDIA, the race for robotics supremacy is just getting started...
